Get ready for summer with this 1979 MG Midget!
Interior: Good condition. No tears or rips in leather. Dash has a couple cracks that are patched in a way that makes the cracks not very obvious. All switches and gauges work. Manual pull for choke is installed poorly and would need to be reworked or replaced to look right but still functions. Hazzard switch is missing the Hazzard label. Turn signal is a little sloppy (new turn signal unit is included).
Exterior: Paint looks decent but it is not original paint and you can spot places where there are drips if you look closely so it wasn’t a super high quality job but does look really nice from 5 feet away. Two places where the paint is chipped off around rear trunk (or boot). I buffed out the paint to remove surface scratches and a lot of them came out but it could be done again for improvement.
Top: Comes with convertible top with top storage boot that covers/secures the top when it is down. Also comes with tonneau cover. Tonneau cover and top boot are in great shape but the convertible soft top has several rips and would probably need to be replaced rather than repaired.
Mechanical: Runs and drives well. Have had it on the interstate a few times now and does fine. Completely new rear brakes (drums, calipers, pads) and new emergency brake hardware. Previous owner had done a fair amount of work on the front suspension/steering (through Concours Cars of Colorado) for which I have receipts. Looks like steering rack was replaced as well as some suspension parts and alignment. New battery. Engine could still use some fine tuning. Seems to run just a little rich and has a couple oil leaks (rear differential appears to be leaking and valve cover also seems to be leaking). Looks like choke was converted from liquid operated to manual but the kit used doesn’t seem to fit properly so it’s a little touchy. Windshield washer not working or tested so don’t know it’s condition.
Tires: Look like brand new and they have less than 100 miles on them but they’re not new. Maybe 10 years old? Previous owner replaced the tires when he got the car but then the car just sat in his garage for those 10 years.
Comes with quite a few extra parts (new alternator, new front discs, new visor, lots of little parts of which some are used and some are new).
Fun little car. I received it because a friend of mine was planning to work on it but hadn’t touched it in years so he asked me if I wanted it since I had time to get it running and cleaned up. I have only had it a short time and enjoyed getting it road worthy and looking good but I would like to move it on to someone who will enjoy it and appreciate it more than what I will be able to. I’m just not in the position to have an extra summer fun car although I wish I was because this thing is pretty fun to drive around in.
